Sneak Peak 2018

I didn’t think it would happen, in fact I still can’t believe it.

One of my brothers has been generous enough to give me some zenki parts.

Excited.. but I realize I need to bring it stateside and gotta figure out how.

1st set Suenaga-san – Thank you

Ita-san… thank you!

2nd – Arigato Yuuya-san

The Zenki front end is something I’ve wanted for almost 15yrs. I was able to snag Zenki headlights in 2005.. but didn’t realize I needed the other components (hood, fenders and bumper).

2005 was the peak of the customize front end craze of the import tuning scene, so I thought I would just have to hit up JT Autostyle or PJ Bonafacio’s shop and have them graft it on.

But now I realize I need the bumper for that crisp Zenki look.

Head gasket done – F31roger

When I got my Black M30, I had to change a few things out. At the time (2004) the car was 14 years old, I had picked up the preventative maint mentality from my 240sx, RX7 and Cressida, the M30 was gonna be no different.

I made a list of things I needed to change so I can make it reliable. This typically is the whole water pump/thermostat/time belt and head gasket deal. While it was down, I even did the wheel bearings. It took longer since I never worked with a V6 before. After that, my M30 took me from Canada to Southern California… multiple times!

When I picked up my current M30, I was fortunate enough that the previous owner and the original owner kept all the work done. I could come up with things I wanted to change based on that. Seeing that the water pump wasn’t touched and timing belt was due (my M30 has 152,000 miles) I figure when I get time, do the whole deal again.

I was gonna have a shop do it because I worked, but that shop closed up a few months ago. They then referred me to a shop in the area. I gave them a call and they quoted me $4000.

I then remember getting a card from one of the guys. So I contacted him and he said he could do it for $1500 and be done in 4 days.

It would be done at his garage, with his license and warranty on parts and labor. I decided to go this route.

Needless to say, I’ve been happy to get this done. He also looked at stuff while it was off and said the engine was well taken cared of (thank you Jeff – Previous owner).

All gaskets, timing components, cam seals, water pump, thermostat and heads were done. I ordered a few items, such as the upper radiator hose with the coolant bleeder valve and a few other small items.

While the head gasket didn’t need to be replaced, I felt while I am there, mind as well. At least I know where this part of my M30 stands.

Next is a ton of hose changes.

Genuine Infiniti Car phone

A car phone is definitely an outdated piece of technology. At the time of the early 90s, there were no cell phones.. or they were not common as they are today (2017).

Infiniti offered the Car phone in the Q45 and M30 for $900!!!  A few years back, I saw on in a Q45 in the Junkyard and didn’t care because it’s irrelevant today… But I regretted passing it up the more I started to think about it.

When I visited Carshop Friend in 2016, I saw this:

This is a genuine phone that was in the Grand Selection or at least in the Nissan leopards (possibly in a Zenki). I didn’t realize it until I seen a few more at the Nissan leopard meetings I attended.

So I started to think that if I ever see an Infiniti phone, I’d get it for the looks rather than the functionality as long as the price justified the item.

I began to lose hope because I didn’t see any. When I started to look at CL’s M30s, I noticed a few did have a phone!

A couple weeks ago, I decided to hit the junkyard to get a fender for my Previa. I decided to walk the yard and saw a Q45. I looked inside and I couldn’t believe it!

It was clean. Not only that, it was mounted in the armrest when you opened it up.

Also, unlike the phone above, this has INFINITI on it!!!

I was thinking the price of it would be $10-15, knowing that some junkyards try their best to get money out of you. This lady was nice and realized this was not a highly sought item (easy to down play the item).

$2.36 everything!

I was simply amazed at this piece. While it will not be functional, I do like the looks and it is era correct and GENUINE INFINITI!!!!

Save M30’s from the Wrecking Yards

This is my first time posting anything on the site. I’ve owned 8 convertibles and 1 coupe in the last 5 years. I currently have a white convert that I have been chasing for almost 3 years.  I’ve managed to keep several of them very stock by salvaging as many usable parts as I can find from junkyards from all over the states of Washington, Oregon and California.  Most wrecking yards other than the Pick n Pull’s usually let the cars stay in the in the yards for over 90 days.  You can call and ask about parts and if they are good they’ll pull them and send them to you.  Lately it seems that seems that most M30’s have been ending up in Pick n Pulls and the car is crushed within about 45 days at the most. Some of the photos from Row 52 show that quite a few parts are salvageable, however go to waste because I’m too far away to retrieve them. My biggest regret was not getting back to a Pick n Pull in Tacoma to get a fairly clean interior and quarter windows.

I encourage everyone to check the Pick n Pull yards and inform others on this site what parts are usable and collect as many parts as you can afford and/or store for a rainy day.  Every month it gets harder and harder to find these cars in yards.  Check Row 52.  I’m happy to pay someone to grab parts and ship them to me. I also have parts that I can trade. I’m currently looking for a tan drivers seat, white mud flaps and a simple original radio volume cap.
