When I got Project Leopard, I was missing a lot of big items. One was the transmission. Marco said he had one available and has been checked. I honestly didn’t even concentrate on the transmission until recently. The only reason why is because I didn’t know what was all missing.
So let’s start off. Initially I started with these:
- Transmission is a PUSH RB25DET (bulkier than RB20’s).
- Nismo Pressure plate – 30210-RS245
- Nismo lightened Flywheel – 12310-RSR21
- Nismo clutch (but needed to be replaced
- Custom transmission bracket
I then had to get these:
- Z1 clutch (240mm) – to replace
- ARP Pressure Plate bolts kit – 102-2201
- ARP Fly Wheel bolts kit – 102-2801
- Pilot bushing – 32202-B950A
- RB25det Clutch Slave Cylinder – 30620-21U23
- Slave cylinder bolts – 08121-02528
- Clutch fork – 30531-CD000
- Throw out bearing retainer clip – 30514-CD000
- Clutch fork retainer spring – 30534-66300
- Clutch fork dust boot – 30542-12U00
- Koyo throw out bearing – 30502-21000
- Clutch release bearing sleeve – 30501-S0284
- RB25det engine to transmission plate 30411-21U00
- National HB6 – carrier bearing – 3752141L25 for driveshaft
- Full M30 driveshaft (front part was missing)
- ARP 102-2801 Fly wheel bolt kit
- ARP 102-2201 Pressure plate kit
- EPP RB25 bellhousing bolt kit
- Pilot bushing
After mating the tranmission to the engine, we realized that I was missing a few parts. The sandwich plate between the block and transmission. Also I tried to stop by Action Clutch, but they closed early. So I ordered it right away. I also had to order the carrier bearing.
Once I had all those the things I needed, I shipped it to Hung. The next time I arrived to LA, we put it together. That’s when we found out that there were some issues.
In December of 2022, I went to LA to work on the car and we put the transmission together.
This was in December 2022 I believe. So after getting all the transmission components (all nnew). we started putting it all together. We ran into clearance issues with the clutch fork.
Concept Z offered a heavy duty clutch fork for the RB transmission. Note the part number: #30531-CD000
On that same ordering page, there are options for additional stuff, in which I did order.
As you can see as my order states, the shift fork is the same number as noted above.
We put the throw out bearing together with the shift fork.
After install, Hung said it’s not centered right and that something is off. So we looked at everything to make sure we didn’t mess up.
Hung decided to message Jason (Rival Autoworks, Apexi) and explained the situation. Since Jason was down the street, he said I could stop by and see if anything at the shop would work.
After Hung figured out what was needed, we set on using the new shift fork, used good condition throw out bearing and we had to change the pivot ball to a longer one.
That combination seemed to work great!
This was a good set up, but I couldn’t believe that my NEW stuff meant for the RB engine (but in the invoice all Z stuff) didn’t work out.
After Hung got the clutch line, he put the slave cylinder on and hooked it up.
For the driveshaft, he had to pu on the carrier bearing and also put the custom front portion to the rear.
I truely had to piece this transmission together. There is a bit of me wondering if I should have just gotten a CD009 transmission brand new. There is part of me that will have this transmission rebuilt after a year.
